According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the percentage of adults engaging in binge drinking in Montana was approximately 21.5% in 2019.
ABinge drinking is defined as consuming five or more drinks (for men) or four or more drinks (for women) in a short period, usually within two hours.
In 2019, there were a total of 71 alcohol-impaired driving fatalities in Montana, accounting for 36% of all traffic-related fatalities in the state, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The Montana Youth Risk Behavior Survey reported that around 24% of high school students in the state had consumed alcohol within the past 30 days in 2019.
In 2019, an estimated 9,000 people received substance abuse treatment services in Montana. Among those, alcohol was the primary substance of abuse for approximately 4,000 individuals.

Montana Government Alcohol Substance Use Disorder Services, the Prevention Bureau is responsible for the development and oversight of the state’s system for delivering and reimbursing publicly funded Alcohol and other Substance Use Disorder Services and Resources. The Bureau ensures availability and efficient delivery of appropriate and effective services; provides extensive monitoring of program implementation and operation; and analyzes and reports on program operations, costs and outcomes.

Montana Alcoholics Anonymous Area 40 is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.
