The Washington DC Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) certifies a network of community-based providers to provide substance use disorder (SUD) services including detoxification, residential and outpatient services based on individual need. DBH also provides a range of prevention and recovery services. Many adults with a substance use disorder also have a mental illness. DBH supports integrated care with screening, diagnosis and treatment for both mental and substance use disorders to treat the whole person for the best health outcomes.
DC.gov Alcohol Treatment Services for Teens and Young Adults
The Department of Behavioral Health offers treatment and support for teens and young people up to age 21 seeking help for drug or alcohol challenges. You can choose from the certified community based providers listed below and call for an appointment. You also can talk to a parent/caregiver, teacher, social worker or friend who can help connect you to one of the providers. A counselor will talk with you about your needs and help choose a program that fits you. If indicated, a counselor also will make a referral to mental health treatment as addiction and mental health challenges often go hand in hand.

Drug Free Youth DC Underage Drinking “There’s A Reason” is a campaign targeting parents and caregivers to help address the underage drinking problem in DC. Through this campaign, parents and caregivers are given an abundance of resources to use when approaching their child about underage drinking.

Its purpose is service work — to help the groups carry the message on an area-wide basis. Just a few examples are: answering the A.A. telephones, publishing the Where & When, taking meetings to hospitals and institutions, and sponsoring various area events.
